The objectives:
- To analyse historical dynamics and future trends of demand and
supply for feed crop products.
- To evaluate potentials, weaknesses, opportunities and
constraints for expanding feed crop farming with emphasis placed on
CGPRT crops in the participating countries;
- To propose possible cooperation schemes for trade and
development of feed crops/products among Southeast Asian countries;
and
- To formulate policy options to promote sustainable development
of feed crop farming in the participating countries
The activities:
- The FEEDSEA project was launched as a study to capture and
identify opportunities for improvement in rural income through
avenues provided by the new utilization of the CGPRT crops through
feed industry in Southeast Asian countries
- The study was implemented in collaboration with partner
institutes from selected countries in Southeast Asia:
- Indonesian Center for Agricultural Socio Economic Research
and Development (ICASERD)
- Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute
(MARDI)
- Philippines Council for Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural
Resources Research and Development (PCARRD)
- Office of Agricultural Economics (OAE), Ministry of
Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand
- It is a continuation of the research project “Prospects of Feed
Crops in South Asia (FEED)” conducted from 2001 to 2003 with the
participation of four countries in South Asia, namely: India, Nepal,
Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
- In-country seminars have been held and results are widely
distributed.
- The regional workshop on “Prospects of Feed Crops in Southeast
Asia: Alternative to Alleviate Poverty through Secondary Crops
Development” was held at CAPSA office, Bogor, Indonesia, on
14-15 September 2004. The workshop aimed to discuss and improve the
country studies. The proceedings of workshop was produced.

- The outputs of the project are served as inputs in the research
and policy planning process in all participating countries
- The feedback questionnaire of the project (Indonesia and
Malaysia) shows the relevance of research questions and output to
both countries
